About Us

Chef Dan Lowry at Lowry’s Restaurant in 1986.

OUR STORY

Although Red Goose Spice Company was created in 2002, its history dates to the 1980s. That’s when a young and eager chef named Dan Lowry graduated from New York’s Culinary Institute of America and began his career as an executive chef at a prestigious hotel in his hometown of Troy, Michigan. Dan rose to become corporate chef and director of operations at Fishbone’s Restaurant in Detroit and eventually started his own establishment, Lowry’s Restaurant.

As a chef, capturing the freshness and vibrancy in quality ingredients, especially in herbs and spices, and consistently sourcing them was a constant challenge. Ultimately, it’s what led Dan to found Red Goose Spice Company. He believed that if he could focus on this, he could serve small- and medium-sized food operations better—providing superior product day in and out—than the major spice companies and small local operations.

Almost 20 years later, his determination has been justified. Dan remains personally involved in qualifying vendors and selecting products with the vibrant colors, flavors, and aromas that creative chefs demand. This attention to detail is what keeps our customers coming back for more.
